some frequently asked questions…
what is a cottage food business?
flourproof is a cottage food business, which means it’s a government-approved food business that operates out of a home kitchen (without a commercial shop location or commercial kitchen) that is inspection-approved. essentially, it’s a home bakery made out of my personal kitchen.
is everything actually gluten-free?
yes! all of my menu items are made without gluten or wheat products, and i work out of a nearly gluten-free kitchen. if you email or DM me, you can requests specifics on what ingredients i use on certain products.
why are your prices so high?
as is unfortunately and famously true, gluten-free flour is a tad bit more expensive than the usual wheat flour. every product uses a different blend of flours i’ve decided on after months of testing, as i don’t like to rely on the same premade 1:1 flour blend for each food item. this makes it so the average price of my menu items are a little more expensive.
but beyond that, i adjust my prices up to automatically include taxes and any gratuity for my services so that you know that the price you end up with is the full amount you need to pay — no more than that.
all proceeds from orders will go toward covering my costs and any remainders will be used to support my incoming first year at culinary school!
how do i get my food order?
after you submit an order, i will reach out to you via email to discuss where and when pickup will happen.
how do i pay for my order?
when we meet to pick up your order, you can pay in cash, Venmo, or Zelle.
how long will my order take?
all orders will take 2-4 days from the point of making the order to the pickup date. if you want a further pickup date for any reason, we can also discuss a different date.
do you do deliveries?
most orders will be pickup-only. however, if you make an order of $20 or more, i can deliver within a 12 mile radius from Capitol Hill (98102). all deliveries are completed on saturdays.
can i order from flourproof even if i’m not from Seattle?
per Washington’s Cottage Food Law, i cannot serve people outside of WA. however, if you’re within a 12 mile radius of Capitol Hill and order at least $20 worth of items, i can deliver outside of Seattle.
i don’t have a sweet tooth. can i still support flourproof with a donation?
yes! you can send donations to @debdebk on Venmo. <3
do you have discounts?
yeah honestly if you’re reading this rn, show me a screenshot during pickup and i’ll give you 15% off!
what’s that bird on your logo?
it’s a korean magpie! a big part of my understanding of food, baking, cooking, and experimentation comes from recording voice memos of my mom while she taught me how to make korean meals from my childhood. ultimately, my work under flourproof is hugely linked to myself as a korean american and i choose to use the korean magpie to represent my work with food 🙂
